《The Red Lantern - Everyone Has a Red and Bright Heart 》

    The Red Lantern, a modern revolutionary Peking Opera, is one of the Eight Model Operas. The opera is adapted from the movie Successor ( Zi You Hou Lairen ). The story happened in a place occupied by Japanese invaders in the Second World War. Li Yuhe was a CPS(Communist Party of China ) member, a railway worker and an experienced underground agent. The three generations of his special family were formed in the Great Strike of February 7, 1923. Li Yuhe received the task of  transferring ciphered codes to the betrayal of traitor Wang Lianju. Jiushan, a Japanese military police captain, tried all possible ways to get him to hand over the ciphered codes, but Li Yuhe who was both intelligent and brave, never yielded. It did not matter if it was at a banquet, or in the execution ground, Li Yuhe crushed the tricks of Jinshan. Eventually the Japanese killed the Li Yuhe and Grandma Li. Therefore Tai Mei carried on the unfinished task, and managed to transfer the ciphered codes to Baishan Guerrilla in the end. 

    The Red Lantern is and excellent original opera of the National Peking opera Company. As an epoch- making opera, a complete script and performance system was developed for it, including its script treatments, stage controls, character classifications and the designs of the singing tunes. Therefore, it can be regarded as a milestone for the modern revolutionary Peking opera, from exploration to standardization, from experiment to maturity. The image of Li Tiemei createdby Liu Changyu is deeply imbedded in people’s memory. The section Everyone has a Red and Bright Heart is very popular and had spread widely.
